Overview and Goals of Project 1
The Fatwood Group is proud to announce our first research project. This project is being conducted with the aid of our partner organization, the Ecoland Institute to improve the effectiveness of live, instructor-led adult training.
Members of the board of directors of the Fatwood Group and Ecoland Institute are heavily involved in the adult continuous education community focusing on organizational improvement. We’ve noticed that there has been very little innovation in this market segment. We’ve further noticed that the results of current live, instructor-led training has deteriorated over the last few decades. We attribute this decline to a variety of issues, including cultural change, lack of innovation in the market segment, and issues related to globalization.
Our goal for Project 1 is to research two specific innovations to improve live, instructor-led adult education in organizations. These innovations include:
- Application of Socratic methods in a seminar environment
- Application of Gamification to improve motivation and ownership in a seminar environment
Our research involves all current members of The Fatwood Group. This project involves a collaboration of key contributors to The Fatwood Group and Ecoland Institute:
- Michael B Bender, MBA, PMP, CSM of the Fatwood Group
- Kimi Ziemski, MBA, PMP, CSM of the Fatwood Group
- Robert W. Fuller of the Fatwood Group and Ecoland Institute
- Brandon Hamilton, DBA, MISA, MBA, profesor at DeVry University
- Norma Owen of the Ecoland Institute
Our research methods include a combination of academic research and action research. Specifically, the researchers will continue to study different training methods documented in academic papers, published books, and anecdotal feedback from instructors focusing on both Socratic teaching methods and Gamification techniques.
Based on this research, The Fatwood Group will test different training methods in live environments through several education companies, including:
- Ally Strategic Partners, Ltd.
- Energizing Enterprises
- Hamilton Solutions Group
and other organizations willing to participate. Direct results of various teaching methods will be accumulated and analyzed for efficacy. These results then will be used to adjust teaching methods during the project.
The research will conclude with academic review of the results and possible publication in the academic community.
The Fatwood Group and Ecoland Institute are proud to combine forces in this innovative project. We believe that the successful application of Socratic methods combined with modern Gamification technique, we can enhance the efficacy of life, instructor-led training and improve both organizations and society at large.
